SUMMARY
Brand identity for a Peranakan café that brings heritage into the everyday.
Scope of Work
Strategy, Brand Identity, Art Direction, Packaging, Website
Peranakan food has long been framed as either fine dining or hawker fare, with little space for the everyday table. Bibik Violet redefines it as generous, eclectic and warm, a cultural café where heritage lives in the rhythm of daily life.
Located in the century-old Temasek Shophouse, the space recalls the feeling of dining at a favourite auntie’s home: casual, inviting, filled with laughter and always something delicious to eat. Food and design are treated as one. Everyday bakes such as orange sugee cake, kaya toast and Nyonya kuehs sit alongside packaging and retail keepsakes, extending the café into homes and turning food into memory.
The identity draws closely from Violet Oon’s own world. A visual diary built from her home, favourite colours and personal muse ensures that the brand feels unmistakably hers, an extension of personality as much as of culture. The tone of voice is witty, sincere and generous, speaking like a trusted auntie through storytelling, personal notes and thoughtful gestures.
The identity reflects this spirit: curious, playful and down to earth. Bold tropical palettes, expressive typography and eclectic motifs avoid cliché while staying deeply rooted in Peranakan culture.
Heritage here is not a relic but a lived experience. Bibik Violet shows that cultural expression can be rooted and refreshing at once, timeless in spirit, contemporary in form, and always full of life.
